Ginger Spice
What is the name of the soft ginger/spiced biscuits that are covered with icing?
Years ago, I remember eating some delicious little soft biscuits, that have an almost cake-like texture. They are covered with thin icing, and the insides taste of ginger, cinnamon and general spice. I have a feeling they might be Dutch or German, because they given to me by a Dutch family.
I’d like to buy some, but I have no idea what they are called, or where to find them. Anyone have any ideas?
general “Lebkuchen”, which are larger, about 5 inches in diameter, or “Pfeffernüsse”, which is also a form of “Lebkuchen”, but are thicker and smaller in diameter, only about one inch, and about 3/4 of an inch thick.
Get them at international food stores, or maybe Aldi has some (if Aldi stores are aroudn your area).
Lebkuchen also come without any icing, or covered in chocolate.

Ginger , officially known as zingiber officinate is a wonderful spice protect for its taste and medicinal properties. Ginger has been used for its health benefits for ovwer years and is a favourite medicinal as well as culinary herb. unlike most spices, the part that has the most medicinal valve grows underground. often mistakenly called ginger root, this is actually the rhizorne of the plant which is more of a subterranean stem than a root .They are white or yellow outside and becomes grey- brown or orange when matured.
Ginger is available in two forms they can either be fresh or dried. The dried specie may be scarped or peeled before drying as a spice because of it aroma , flavor and medicinal values. The volatie oils in ginger are the cause of its taste , and medical effectiveness.
Uses and preparationof ginger culinary purpose: Ginger is used in preparing foods and food products like soups , cakes ginger bread, pickies . used in pharmaceutical company . some drugs made with ginger.
Spice and seasoning : Ginger is used as a spice for cooking some cuisines , making cakes, sweets. As a spice ground ginger can be quite a valuable substitute when fresh ginger root is not available. But fresh ginger is alway preferred , both for its superior taste .
Healing power of ginger; Digestive disorder (indigestion, flatulence, abdominal bloating , diarrhea) . Gingers healing properties come from its volatie oils, ginerois and shogaois which are also responsible for its pungent taste. The oils cause more digestive enzymes to be produced , which help with the whole digestion process and prevent flatulence (gas) abdominal bloating and diarrhea.
Cures nauses and vomiting: Volatie oils in ginger are what cause the taste smell and medical effectiveness. About 1 – 4 per cent of ginger is oil. Ginger contains pungen constituents, shogaols and gingerols which make it effective for relieving vomiting and nausea , Gingerols found in ginger may be responsible for blocking the body “s reflex to vomit.
Cough and cold : Gingerconsumption is good for circulation. it aids circulation by helping the body sweet when it is eaten and this can be an important factor in fighting colds and flu.
Respiratory disorders (bronchitis whooping cough tuberculosis and asthma in diverse bronchial infection (actute and chronic bronchitis) when ginger is liberated through the bank and acts directly on the mucus membrane and help prevents treat respiratory disorders.
Menstrual disorder : Ginger is also useful in menstrual disorder in cases of dysmenorrhoea ( painful menstruation) and amenorrhea ( absence of menses ) .
Defence stimulant: The gingerois contained in this spices is responsible for its protective impart and these same compounds may be able to inhibit the growth of colorectal cancer cells.
