How do I even out my skin tone? I have fair skin…?
I have pretty fair skin (I use the lightest shade of makeup in every brand), but it has a bit of a pinkish tone and to me, the tone is uneven maybe a little blotchy and I have shady circles around my eyes. Most people say they don’t notice it, but it bothers me. I have really dry skin and every thing I own says “Intensive Moisture” or “hypo-allergenic”. I use a gentle exfoliating Face Wash and lots of moisturizer. I can only use nearly sheer foundation with moisturizers because anything thick just dries it out. My skin is painfully dry. If I don’t use a gallon of lotion after showering, it is so itchy I can’t stand it. Even when I used to tan my skin was always slightly uneven. Besides makeup, any advice?
I use the Aveen cleansing pads and Aveeno moisturizers everytime I wash my face. It has helped a bit, but still not amazingly.

Moisturizers – How To Choose & How To Use
Moisturizers are a vital element in your skin care regimen. It is very important to hydrate the skin and keep it well nourished. However, it is equally important to choose the right moisturizer and use it the right way so that your skin gets the best treatment and responds well.
How do Moisturizers work?
Our skin acts as a protective barrier that protects the cells from the outside environment. It also seals the moisture within and keeps out the dirt, debris, pollution and other skin irritants. Moreover, our skin regulates our body temperature and cools us down when it becomes too hot.
Moisturizers protect the skin against dehydration and deliver anti-aging ingredients to the epidermis. It thus helps in improving the skin texture and enhancing the skin tone. By replenishing the moisture levels of dehydrated skin, it also decreases the skin’s vulnerability to UV damage and damage by free radicals.
Choosing a Moisturizer
There are an extensive variety of skin moisturizers available in the market. The right moisturizer for you depends upon your skin type. You should choose one that caters to the specific needs and concerns of your skin type and addresses its concerns. While dry skin benefits from thick creamy moisturizers, oilier skin does better with lightweight oil-free moisturizers. Here are some handy tips to choose moisturizers according to your skin type.
Dry Skin
Since dry skin has a weak moisture barrier, the hydration levels are terribly low. Moreover, aging, genetics, cold weather conditions and sun damage further break the barrier and cause skin to become even more dry. That is why it is important to apply a thick creamy moisturizer that will help to replenish the lost moisture levels. You can try using NIA 24 Intensive Recovery Complex or Kinerase Pro Therapy Ultra Rich Night.
Oily Skin
A popular misconception among people is that oily skin doesn’t require moisturizer. However, that isn’t true. Oily skin is a result of excessive sebum particles and not because of excessive moisture. Combination Skin
People with combination skin should use two types of moisturizers, one for the oily T-zone and other for the dry areas. It is neither too heavy nor too light and is suitable for combination skin.
Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin needs a moisturizer that soothes its redness and irritation and hydrates the skin succinctly. Also, make sure you avoid moisturizers that contain added fragrances, dyes and parabens.
Applying a Moisturizer
Selecting a good moisturizer is not good enough. You should know how to apply it well in order to gain maximum results. Here are some tips to apply moisturizers.
Avoid taking long hot showers because hot water strips off the natural oils of the skin and drains the skin of all moisture.
The best time to apply moisturizer is immediately after getting out of the shower. This is because moisturizers are better absorbed by moist skin.
Don’t use bath soaps on your face. Rather, use a mild cleanser that caters to your skin type.
Don’t wash your face more than twice a day because over-washing your face may dry your skin even more.
Always use sunscreens on regular basis irrespective of the time and season. The sun not only makes the skin dry but also its UV rays penetrate through the skin and cause damage within the dermis layer. This further causes the breakdown of collagen and elastin fibers and the skin becomes dry and unhealthy.
Eat a balanced diet rich in nutrients. Always remember that what you put inside your body shows on the outside.
Exfoliate at least twice a week. This helps to scrape of dead skin cells from the surface and reveal fresh new cells from underneath. If you don’t exfoliate regularly, the moisturizer will just sit on top of the dead skin cells and would not penetrate inside.
Try to wear natural fabrics like cotton, silk and linen that don’t irritate the skin and let it breathe.
